Occipital Structure, a 3D scanner for iPad

Occipital Structure is an iPad accessory than clips on top of the camera and enables to capture any object or room in 3D:

They’ve been working with PrimeSense (the Microsoft Kinect designers), so the technology inside Structure looks similar: camera + IR sensors.

This project has raised almost $1,300,000 with KickStarter! And now, it’s available for pre-order at $350.

It can be coupled with Oculus Rift (as seen in this video) to integrate real world objects in the 3D visualization inside the goggles. Car designers (among others) will certainly see here the opportunity to achieve full immersion in virtual reality while interacting with 3D representations of cars.
